I only get this error and can't start gvim.
vim works fine.

This is not a bug. In order to use gvim you need to install one of the
vim variants which have GUI support enabled at compile time (e.g.
vim-gtk).

The fact that the executable gvim exists on your filesystem even if you
have not installed one of them is indeed misleading and is already fixed
in the forthcoming version of the vim package.
