Agreed. I just feel the need to use a more powerful way of handling
patches. I really don't care if it is dpatch or something else, assuming
features are comparable of course. I proposed dpatch just because I'm
used to it.

I could have guessed it indeed :-) Ok, assuming that it can be used
without the whole cdbs I will be happy with cdbs-simplepatchsys as well
for vim packaging ...
