Package: vim
Version: 1:6.4-006+1
Severity: normal

I don't know if this is a bug, but let's go:

$ echo "some text" > test.txt
$ gzip test.txt
$ vim test.txt.gz
-> press 'u' key for undo.

A lot of gargabe is showed. If you save the file, you'll lost all your work..

Thanks,
David.

This is not a bug, but rather a feature :-)

Opening a gziped file with an editor normally shows you just the
"garbage" and you can't see the uncompressed content of the file. A vim
plugin enable you editing the uncompressed content. For doing so after
the file is opened it is uncompressed and shown you for editing.
Pressing 'u' you ask vim to undo the last performed action, i.e.
uncompressing the file.

If you save you wont loose your work, but you should be able to write
gzipped content by hand :-)

Please not that redoing (CTRL-R) will undo the undo, as it does for
other vim actions.

Cheers.
