vim documentation says that 

gv                      [ ............ ]
                        In Visual mode the current and the previous
                        Visual area are exchanged.


If you select text in visual mode, hit <Esc>, and then select another
text in visual mode, hitting again gv does not exchange to the previos
Visual area, as it should.
