I have a keyboard which has é directly mapped on it. The first time I
press that key, the cursor moves one character to the left, but nothing
appears. The next time, the cursor blinks, but doesn't even move.
I have to add that it's _only_ é, though; the à and ö are fine (as are
other characters with modifiers that I tried to enter).

No.

It happened to me both when using console vim running under rxvt-unicode
as when using gvim.

Apparently I have vim-latexsuite installed. I didn't even know that :)
