I'm pretty sure now that this is an issue in dkms.

If I change the shebang in /etc/init.d/dkms_autoinstaller to #!/bin/bash, the
warning messages are gone. My system shell is dash.
Without having looked more closely at this init script, I guess it uses bashisms.
