The init script uses -x to test if /etc/default/asterisk exists.  It should
use -r.  The default file is not installed with the x bit set and the "."
command doesn't need the file to be x.


Also, I think the init script should set use the -G asterisk option to set
the group to asterisk.  But I can set that in /etc/default/asterisk, so I
suppose that's not a bug.
