Unfortunately I am not in a position to try 2.6.11 (as the systems I
use are mostly sarge). As somebody else gave me access to zaptel
drivers that work with sarge (private email), I have used them
instead. Thanks for this, Tzafrir Cohen.

As an weird side note, I noticed module-assistant worked with
Tzafrir's package zaptel-source package; with my packages I compiled
and installed from sid however, module-assistant refused to use the
module-source package, but insisted on download a new copy of the
source using "apt-get source zaptel". The first time it failed,
because I didn't have any "deb-src" entries in /etc/apt/sources. This
seemed rather weird. I have never had module-package do this
before. The zaptel-source package was installed, and the source
tarball existed in the correct location. Perhaps it is related to the
problem I encountered compiling?

Thanks for your response.
