you're free to fork the packaging effort and double the manpower needed.
First off, this group is Debian pkg-voip, not Ubuntu. The fact that we
also do legacy Ubuntu spin-off packages is rather a regression test for
our own sources than anything else (and of course a "service" for our
users). None of the Debian developers in pkg-voip does have any
affiliation with Ubuntu (AFAIK), yet we do not mind if the MOTU use our
packages if they work for them as are. So far the cooperation has been
quiet and productive with the MOTU, thus I don't see any reason to
change the packaging into one Debian-only and another Ubuntu-only
source.

But, as said, your call to join the troups over at Ubuntu and make
yourself at home with your own set of asterisk sources.
