The package includes firmware for Digium hardware and Firmware for
Xorcom hardware. The license for the Digium hardware is not exactly
clear (it's NOT GPL, but it is freely distributable and source not
availble).

The license for our (Xorcom) firmware is pretty clear: freely
distributable. If it really helps, we would consider changing that to
some BSD license (e.g: the user may change it. Heck: there's not much we
can do about it, anyway) but from what I know it wouldn't really matter
and thus not worth the bother.

However I don't see any point in flaming on the firmware subject in this
mailing list. Currently the Debian Project has not made up its
collective mind on the subject, and debian-devel and other lists are
probably a better place to flame^Wdiscuss the basic issues.

You can probably easily guess my position.
