Hi

As you might have noticed, Zaptel is being renamed to DAHDI:
http://blogs.digium.com/2008/05/19/zaptel-project-being-renamed-to-dahdi/

At the moment the chan_dahdi changes have been commited into 1.4. I
expect 1.4.22 to have those changes. Generally there have been massive
s/zt/dahdi_/ s/ZT_/DAHDI_/ and such . /proc/zaptel and /dev/ zap were
replaced with /proc/dahdi and /dev/dahdi , respectively.

I believe that we are practically required to get those changes into
Etch. Those are indeed massive changes (err... for bristuff) . OTOH, if
we don't carry them, backporting fixes later would become a mess.

And then there is the issue of the trademark.

Dahdi now has two separate packages for tools and for drivers. The
drivers package includes only firmwares Makefile and Kbuild-drivven
build . The "tools" subproject includes all the utilities. It will
probably also include the zaptel-perl stuff.

So we will have two source packages. I'm not yet sure of the upstream
names . But I figure we'll have the following binary packages:

dahdi-tools ->
  dahdi-tools (or "dahdi"?). Will probably not need special tweaking.

dahdi-linux ->
  dahdi-source
    dahdi-modules
  dahdi-firmware (non-free)

We will need to make some udev changes. I suspect we'll need to add them
in our own at first.

BTW: Asterisk trunk now has an alternative (non zaptel/dahdi) timing
source.
