Hello,

no you do not need them. It sounds like you have enabled the
installation of recommends, which is not an issue of the mumble package,
but by his reverse depends.

In apt you may disable this "feature" by creating a file like this:

me at exez:~$ cat /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/90norecommends
APT {
        Install-Recommends "false";
        Install-Suggests "false";
}
