You're probably right regarding upstream tarballs, however having all of
these embedded copies in several packages is not going to make the
security team very happy.

Someone should make it this into a proper shared library (shouldn't be
too hard), upload it into the archive (and get ftp-master's approval on
the licensing provision) and patch opal/qutecom/asterisk to link with it
(also shouldn't be too hard).
