Hi Stefan,

I'm using hostapd as a daemon because my wlan is in a bridge, and this is the only way that it used to work some time ago, it didn't work with ifupdown. See http://bugs.debian.org/600589. Is it supported now? It would be nice to move to a more supported solution.

The card is a Sparklan WPEA-127N with an AR9380:
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9300 Wireless LAN adaptor [168c:0030] (rev 01)

My /etc/default/hostapd is identical to yours. My hostapd.conf is attached, it is based exactly on the stock 0.7.3-4 config file. BTW, installing 1.0 didn't complain that I made changes to this file (usually packages ask me if I want to keep my changes, merge, etc.). This could be part of the bug, too, because the example config in /usr/share/doc/hostapd/examples looks a bit different.

hostapd_cli doesn't work because hostapd doesn't start at all. I didn't try rebooting, it doesn't start manually.

iw list output is attached.

I'm using a vanilla 3.4.4 kernel.

Is there any way to get some diagnostic output why hostapd fails to start? Didn't find anything in syslog. I'm in no hurry to upgrade so I'd like to help debug this.

Best regards,
Jozsef
