Does not work at the moment here.

I use extra="console=xvc0 xencons=xvc0"
xvc0 in /etc/inittab
/dev/sda1 for disks (I use LVM volumes)

So no hvc0 but xvc0.

For 32-bit I use the same parameters as for 64-bit.

I also install udev in the client, and put this line in /etc/fstab:
devpts /dev/pts devpts default 0 0
