It's not a panel nor gnome plugin, so it's ok.

you obviously have a problem with your icons. Try to (re)run
gtk-update-icon-cache as root and see if it fixes the icon problem.

There, you have a problem in your configuration files, exactly as it
says.
Add yourself to netdev group, logout and log back in, this should be ok.
And remember to read README files.
See /usr/share/doc/network-manager/README.Debian
(and it has nothing to do with Xfce :) )
