I suspect an udev rule not doing its job or something. Can you give us
the permissions on the concerned device? Did you add/edit udev rules
recently?
If you try to manually mount the device, does it succeed?
Is the device in /etc/fstab?
Maybe the hal upgrade is responsible for this, I don't really know (it's
working here). Basically, thunar calls exo to mount things, wich at it
turn calls hal. For example, when I plug an usb key and mount it with
thunar, I get that in syslog:
Oct 28 16:46:13 hidalgo hald: mounted /dev/sdb1 on behalf of uid 1000
