Using the current installer, you can setup the first user with sudo
rights, which would fix this bug.

Another way is to add people to the powerdev group. Adding the first
user to the powerdev group at install can be a good idea, but it's a
wishlist against debian-installer.

This is explained in /usr/share/doc/xfce4-session/README and
README.Debian.

Would you consider this ok for you?
