I have been configuring my printer, an old HP DeskJet
6122 inkjet model, to work on Etch.  After
successfully setting up the printer with the CUPS web
interface, and configuring 'lpoptions' so that 'lp'
and 'lpr' have nice-looking output, I then moved on to
configuring GUI
apps.  I use XFCE4 instead of Gnome or KDE.

Trying to print a test document from 'mousepad', I got
a dialog box with an error message:

  "client-error-bad-request".

I thought I needed to do further XFCE configuration to
allow printing, but when I checked

  Xfce -> Settings -> Printing System Settings

I found that the "Printing System Selection" was
already set to CUPS.

Reading the relevant documentation available at

I found this interesting blurb:

    The xfprint4 application allows the user to print
    files of many different types and to set the
    printing options. For this it makes use
    of the a2ps application.  [...]

After a quick 'aptitude install a2ps' I found that all
of the printing features of XFCE were working as
indicated by the documentation.  Printing my document
using 'mousepad' now worked fine.

I am currently using the backports.org version of
XFCE4 (see above), but previously was using the
4.3.99.1-1 version available from the standard Etch
repositories.  I believe the old version at least had
a "Recommends" on 'a2ps' and 'psutils', but this
backports version has
only a "Suggests" on 'psutils' and no mention of
'a2ps' at all in its dependencies!
