Do you use compositing? Is it enabled in xfwm4 and in xorg? Check in the
“compositor” tab in Window Manager Tweaks: if the tab exists,
compositing is enabled in Xorg. If “enable compositing” is checked, it's
enabled in xfwm4.

Does this happen only with xfce4-terminal or with other apps too? Could
you try with gnome-terminal? (with both compositing enabled and
disabled).

What X driver are you using?
