I could, but to downgrade I would have to resurrect snapshot an re-build it, 
together with all widgets/items that I need... (Or downgrade everything to 
Squeeze)

Nevertheless we have a legitimate bug.

I know it's the case because just as the person who reported this issue I 
experienced it the very same way immediately after upgrade.

Later this forced me to use version from experimental.

True, I understand the challenge.
However we know that version before 4.8.6 used to work and that all later 
versions are working. 
Whenever the intention for responsible change was good, the result is a bit 
devastating....
