But who is sending dbus a SIGTERM?

I wouldn't, I don't think xfwm has any dbus support anyway. Are you sure
what's closed is the window manager and not xfce4-session?

Well, I really often have xfce4-terminal started as part of the session,
and closing the term and it never happens, afaict.
