Had been using the system normally day in/day out.
Have not been able to detect what it is that I've done differently to make this happen (does seem to happen
more often when running virtual box in seamless mode though?)

When the problem my "main" panel at the bottom stops automatically hiding when the mouse is
moved away from it. The panel is set to automatically hide/show.
To fix the issue, I need to log out and in again.
I expected to not have to log out and log in again.
