Bug#547207: ogg123: widely different CPU usage between invocations

Package: vorbis-tools
Version: 1.2.0-6
Since some time now I've noticed very odd CPU usage when playing Vorbis files
with ogg123, more precisely that its CPU bandwidth consumption can vary a lot
between different invocations.
Here are 3 consecutive timings I've done playing the same 44.1 KHz stereo
Vorbis file:
13.568u 56.511s 3:21.36 34.7% 0+0k 0+0io 0pf+0w
7.204u 21.321s 3:21.24 14.1% 0+0k 0+0io 0pf+0w
3.932u 2.972s 3:21.22 3.4% 0+0k 0+0io 0pf+0w
So it's a real waste of CPU bandwidth in certain cases...
That doesn't seem to happen with mono files though.
Kernel: 2.6.18-4-k7 #1 SMP Mon Mar 26 17:57:15 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
libao2 0.8.8-5
libc6 2.7-8
libcurl3-gnutls 7.16.2-6
libflac8 1.2.1-1.2
libogg0 1.1.4~dfsg-1
libspeex1 1.2~rc1-1
libvorbis0a 1.2.0.dfsg-6
libvorbisenc2 1.2.0.dfsg-6
libvorbisfile3 1.2.0.dfsg-6
I have the same problem with kernel 2.6.26-1-amd64 on a K8 (single core) on
another machine, where timings can differ by nearly a factor 10.
Cheers,
Bernard.
