| I just burned the ISO image using the "Burn ISO image". I even checked the

Good!

| MD5 hash using k3b, so the DVD has the system, and not just the ISO in it.
| Funnily enough, in the computers at work it boots up (I get the blackboard
| penguin), and it starts booting up, but stops with a kernel panic sayint it

Known error, and my mistake in not supplying a default for the isolinux boot.
If you say 'linux26' at that point 'blackboard penguin' prompt, all is well.
'linux24' also works and gets you openMosix.

| cannot mount the root FS. Issuing the noapic blah blah options, it stops
| complaining about an unknown graphics card. So maybe the DVD was knackered,

I never saw that with the various machines I tried. There are certain Knoppix
bootcode you could try ... Standard knoppix docs apply for this -- no
Quantian changes.

| but a previous version I tried using (burned by a friend) was also unuseable
| in my home laptop (fairly new acer Aspire 1360) and on my home desktop
| computer (fairly old Duron system). Other systems that boot from a CD (not a
| DVD) work fine in either box. Could this be a DVD-related problem? Other
| DVDs (films and data) work fine, but this is the only booting DVD I have
| tried so far!

Hard to tell at this point...
