[Quantian-general] quantian .7.9.1 HD install problems

Quantian .7.9.1 boots fine from either a dvd drive or an iso image of the dvd on
the hard disk.  However, when trying to install to hard disk (to apt-get
software not included on Quantian dvd),   the install appears to work but won't
boot. 

Grub gets to "uncompressing kernel" then gives "CRC error" "-- system halt" for
any of the kernels included.

I tried to reinstall the quantian .6.9.3 iso image but lilo could not add any of
the kernesl that formerly worked fine. 

Does anyone have any idea what could be happening or preferably  how to fix the
problem.
