It sounds like you want to remaster Quantian down from 2.7gb to 1.0gb.

Given that a basic Knoppix 4.0.2 cdrom that I started from is 0.7gb, you'd
have to essentially delete almost all of what makes Quantian different from
Knoppix 4.0.2 to make the size constraint.  You could start by adding what
you need to Knoppix 4.0.2.
