[Quantian-general] problem w network on reboots

quantian0;7.9.2.iso booted via grub as per the quantian lilogrub.howto
created persistent knoppix disk image,
this keeps my home dir files safe for reboots

1) puzzling problem with network upon rebooting
if i reboot from quantian back into quantian,
the network is fine, still up upon reboot

but if i first reboot from quantian to my fc5
and then reboot from fc5 back into quantian
the network is misconfigured in an odd way

eth0 not shown by ifconfig
ifup eth0 says it is already configured

oddest of all:
trying to reconfigure the network card
get response no supported network cards found

rebooting a 2nd time into quantian
fixes the network problem with no configuration effort

-----
2) if i also do the save knoppix configuration
it creates the configs.tbz and knoppix.sh as expected

--is this really needed, since i already have the persistent home?
i.e. it seems there is a lot of duplicated saving of files
inside the configs.tbz and inside the knoppix.img

with the configs.tbz, reboots from quantian to quantian
are less perfect, have go thru the network card config again,
i am using static ip, so the reconfig is mainly just saying no to dhcp
    and oking all following screens

if i then just rm the configs.tbz, knoppix.sh
and test the quantian to quantian reboot
the network is up wo any config as before

thanks for any advice
Jack
