You need the Knoppix cheatcodes.
I also have a cheap averatec, and it needs (if I recall correctly, all coded
up in /etc/lilo.conf on the currently shutdown machine) the 'noacpi noscsi'
flags.

Quantian 0.7.9.2 is not based on Knoppix 5.1, so the comparison isn't really
appropriate.
Good luck, and try the mailing list. Talking to dozens of people at once
increases your chances of getting the right tip.
