Indeed. But that's what resolvconf is for. If there is no resolvconf,
I think that method is ok. And you surely don't want a hard dependency
on resolvconf.

Yes, it showed up in the status line of wicd-curses. But only for a
fracture of a second, so I wasn't able to copy and paste it and -- as
I wrote ("or similar") -- I'm not sure about the exact wording, just
about the meaning.

Maybe it was "Writing", "Updating", "Creating" or such. Checking the
code, it probably was "print 'Setting DNS : ' + dns" from line 671 of
/usr/share/pyshared/wicd/wnettools.py.
