Hi,

I'm writing a backend for a primax scanner. This scanner needs a warmup time
for it's lamp. Without this, the scanner should not start the scan.
Therefore the scan call will be blocked til the warmup time is finished.
This works very well, but it is really ugly. It makes people nervous, if a
programm blocks and they see nothing happen. Me too :-).
The normal way to prevent the user from starting xkill is to show a progress
bar.
Progress bars make people happy, because they were able to make their
computer doing something.

Back to my problem.
The sane interface doesn't allow a backend to change any option values. The
frontend has to get them and display them.

Question: Is there something like a well known option to make the frontend
poll it's value and to display it in some way?
Maybe an option name like "pollme#1-1000" that makes the frontend poll the
value every 1000 µseconds?

Or are there some other way to do it?

Bye
	Andre
