Hi Randolph,

Hewlett Packard says that they "cannot release any protocol
documentation for
the non-SCL scanners". And usually the new scanners which only have a
USB or parallel port interface are non-SCL scanners (SCL is HPs Scanner
Control Language).
These new scanners may be manufactured by other companies (like Avision)
and then labeled by HP. So knowing who "really" manufactured the scanner
could be helpful.
To find out the manufacturer, the vendor id used by USB can be used.
Or if the scanner has a FCC-id on it, you can have a look at
http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/ to whome it may belong. Maybe this company
can give some specifications. But most likely they will not.
