I run a list on one of my servers using Mailman and had the same problem.  
The fix for this is to correct the defaults in 
/var/mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py; in my case they look like this:

DEFAULT_HOST_NAME = 'firefox.malibyte.net'
DEFAULT_URL       = 'http://www.malibyte.net/mailman/'
DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST = 'firefox.malibyte.net'
