Is it necessary to compile the linux kernel with

Does it have to do with the parallel port configuration 
in the BIOS of the machine? I mean the modes: 
Standard Paralle Port (SPP), Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP)
or Extended Capabilities Port (ECP).
