Please, only English messages on sane-devel :-)

The Option is located at Preferences/Setup (in the menue), then Enhancement
(rightmost tab), Preselect scanarea.

You should be able to use the "German XSane" if you set up your
LANG/LC_ALL varaiables to your local language.
