Hi all. Only for the log.

The problem was that Mandracke archives (tar cfz ...) the DevFS
device-nodes in /dev during a shutdown and deflates them during
reboot. So after adding an additional SCSI hard-disk the scanner's
device-node (ID 6) hat the same scsi-generic minor number as the new
hard-disk (ID 4). Because the scanner's old entry was extracted during
system-boot.

This is a completely wrong useage of DevFS and also not supported by
Richard Gooch.

The quick fix is to create the right device-node manually like:

cd /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target6/lun0/
rm generic
mknod generic c 21 3

The major minor number have to adapted for your system's SCSI devices.

For the right usage of DevFS (since 1998 ;-) you might take a look on
ROCK Linux (http://www.rocklinux.org).
