[sane-devel] Hints for Epson Perfection 1650?

Hi all,

Today I set out to buy a scanner. I printed the SANE USB supported pages
and headed to Staples with the list in hand, where I found an Epson
Perfection 1650.

Arrived home, compiled a new kernel with usb scanner driver, and set out
to get it to work.

I think I did everything on the SANE docs, and the Epson backend pages,
including what's in the little howto for the Perfection 1640.

After a while, I got 'scanimage -h -d epson:/dev/usbscanner0' to finally
display the available options, indicating that it had talked to the
scanner.

But when I run xscanimage and ask it to acquire a preview I I get the
following errors on /var/log/messages (xscanimage just says it got some
bad input or something like that):

Feb 27 01:40:22 brasileiro kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1, assigned device number 2
Feb 27 01:40:22 brasileiro kernel: usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x4b8/0x110) is not claimed by any active driver.
Feb 27 01:40:49 brasileiro kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usbscanner
Feb 27 01:40:49 brasileiro kernel: scanner.c: probe_scanner: User specified USB read timeout - 40
Feb 27 01:40:49 brasileiro kernel: scanner.c: 0.4.6:USB Scanner Driver
Feb 27 01:44:55 brasileiro kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
Feb 27 01:45:00 brasileiro last message repeated 6 times
Feb 27 01:45:00 brasileiro kernel: scanner.c: read_scanner(0): funky result:-75. Consult Documentation/usb/scanner.txt.

And then I can't do anything else.

Anybody has clues or tips for me?

Specs:

- Linux 2.4.19-pre1-ac1 (had 2.4.17 before, but didn't have scanner driver
compiled, so grabbed the newer kernel since I had to recompile)
- Sane 1.0.5
- Debian sid
- Epson Perfection 1650

Thanks.

-Roberto
