okay, i upgraded to the 2.4.18 kernel. things are better, but not yet
functional. here's what happens now: i can run xsane, and preview, but not
scan. xsane prompts me to pick a scanner [dev/usbscanner0, /dev/usr/scanner0,
/dev/ usbscanner], so i pick the first one. xsane loads, i preview, the preview
image looks swell. i hit 'start', the scanner acts like it's going to start,
then the light goes off (i think) and then nothing happens.

(the erroneous part seems to be at the very end

could xsane thinking that i have 3 usb scanner devices be messing this up?
