[sane-devel] xsane as normal user

I have SUSE 8.0 and an Epson Perfection 1660.
Trying to work whith xsane or xscanimage:
no problems when I login as root. If I log in as normal
user I get "No device installed" or something like that.
If, as normal user I type "su" then root password and
try xsane or xscanimage I get:

Xlib:connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
Gtk-WARNING ** cannot open display :: 0.0
