Hi, Brent.  It's known that the kernel is the issue, and believed that either
printer.c or some interaction with printer.c is the culprit (because usbdevfs
seems to work OK), but at this time it is not known what the exact issue is
for purposes of fixing it.  (Any help resolving this would be much
appreciated.:-)

Because usbdevfs seems to work (as evidenced by not having this trouble
when using the OfficeJet Windows drivers under VMWare, which uses usbdevfs),
I'm working on a usbdevfs-based alternative access method for hpoj which
should bypass the apparent problems in printer.c.  Please monitor the
hpoj-devel mailing list and/or hpoj website for updates, so you can help
test it once it's ready.
