this is definitely wrong. Please remove this line.

This like looks correct.

This looks good: The scanner driver did recognize your device.

This is also OK.

And this is also correct.

This can be OK. Red Hat 8.0 is very likely using hotplugging, so when
the device is first found, the driver is not yet loaded.=20

=2E.. and this by itself is not a problem, but given your configuration,
you should not see this message. It's about the v4l video device. Usually
this message is created by the v4l backend when no v4l device is found.
The v4l backend should not get loaded (you commented out all backends
but the EPSON backend in dll.conf).=20

Did you install Sane 1.0.9 manually (and in addition to the Sane
installation that came with RH 8.0)? If so, the correct config files
are in /usr/local/etc/sane.d. But: You should not have more than one
Sane installation on your system, so please remove the old installation
by runnning "rpm -e sane" as root user.=20

If you are sure that you don't have a second Sane installation, we have
to keep looking.

Do you have a symlink /dev/scanner to one of the usbscanner devices? If
so, then remove it.

This should not be necessary if your system is set up correctly. The
current version of the backend has a small problem with this syntax:
It requires this string: epson:usb/dev/usb/scanner0 - the first "usb"
is necessary so that it does not open the device file as SCSI device.
