Hi Thomas,

My scanner works now after having installed following packages

# rpm -ivh /home/satimis/Download/Sane/RH7.3/libkscan-3.0.0-5.i386.rpm
# rpm -ivh
/home/satimis/Download/Sane/RH7.3/libkscan-devel-3.0.0-5.i386.rpm
# rpm -ivh
/home/satimis/Download/Sane/RH7.3/kooka-3.0.0-5.i386.rpm
# rpm -ivh
/home/satimis/Download/Sane/RH7.3/wine-20020327-1.i386.rpm
# rpm -ivh
/home/satimis/Download/Sane/RH7.3/wine-devel-20020327-1.i386.rpm

# rpm -qa | grep sane
sane-backends-1.0.11-1
sane-frontends-1.0.10-1
xsane-0.90-1
sane-backends-devel-1.0.11-1

Both "Kooka" and "XSane" work now.  Lot of thanks for your advice.

I had both packages for RH7.3 and RH8.0 downloaded at the same time.  My 
attempt was trying to use the more later version of those packages.
