you are trying to do an 8bit grayscale, duplex scan. i notice 1 thing now 
in the manual for the M3093DG: 'duplex reading supports only 0x01' 
(lineart)

try setting --mode=lineart and see if that works. if so, i will update the 
backend to prevent you from trying :)
