Please make sure that the scanner module is not loaded (rmmod scanner),
run "sane-find-scanner -v -v" as root, and send us the output.

If the scanner really uses a GT-6816 chip, it can be supported by the
gt68xx backend. In this case please have a look at the documentation on 
http://www.meier-geinitz.de/sane/gt68xx-backend/
