[sane-devel] Has somebody succeed with Sane for Epson ADF?

I understand the problem debugging the ADF problem, without the scanner
available. If there is something I can test, let me hear.

To inform, I have also tested the scanner using the USB part of its dual
SCSI/USB (hybrid) interface, but no difference with regards to ADF. As
with SCSI, the ADF works in Windows using Epson Twain5, but not in Linux
using Sane.

The Epson Perfection scanner has been available in three preconfigured
models:
1640SU (flatbed only)
1640SU Office (flatbed+ADF)
1640SU Photo (flatbed+TPU)
The ADF and TPU has also been available as options. I have the 1640SU
Office model with ADF (and have also a TPU option that can be used
instead of the ADF).

However, the output from scanimage -L shows:
"device 'epson:/dev/usbscanner' is a Epson Perfection 1640 flatbed scanner".
Therefore I wonder why my scanner is detected as a "Flatbed scanner"
(only) and not as a ADF scanner?

Installing this scanner, the only relevant Sane selection available is
"Epson Perfection 1640". If one common driver is to support all three
models, shouldn't there be three scanner source selections: Flatbed, ADF
and TPU? As now, only Flatbed/ADF is available and only Flatbed looks to
work (the TPU selection isn't available) in xsane and xscanimage.
Possibly, should there be available one Sane backend driver for each of
the three scanner models listed above?
