I'm attempting to get the SANE scanimage v1.0.13 to work with a Canon 1240U
scanner under FreeBSD 5.1R.

So far:

1. The SANE backend installed without apparent error from the PORTS
collection.

2. The Canon 1240U doesn't appear in the uscanner list of supported
devices but does in sane-plustek.

3. sane-find-scanner returns:

found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9, product=0x220e) at
libusb:/dev/usb0:/dev/ugen0
  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported
by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

4. Added the following to /etc/local/share/plustek.conf

[usb] 0x04a9 0x220e
device auto

(note, I also tried /dev/usb0 and /dev/ugen0 in place of auto)

5. scanimage -L returns:

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

(the scanner is plugged in and turned on)

---Any suggestions?
