I made no such assertion so get of your high horse. I made a correct
assertion that was very carefully phrased. It is a matter of fact that
over 90% of all computers used on a desktop are x86 based. I at no
time claimed that Linux == Intel PC. As a matter of record I have
a Sun machine under the desk, though I am typing this from my
Toshiba laptop.

However there does not always exist open source software to accomplish
all tasks. Even RMS acknowledges this fact. Several of those areas
are in the domain of scanning. One of which is the professional
level scanning of negatives and slides. What I put forward was
and remains a possible solution to the problem that WORKS TODAY.

While there is some rudimentary support for scanning negatives and
slides in XSane it had already been flagged up as *inadequate* by
the original poster.

You are on a free/open source software high horse. You failed to
read closely the original post, you fail to acknowledge that the
OP wants a solution today not some potential solution sometime
in the future. Finally you fail to acknowledge that your assertion
that Vuescan is not a solution WAS TOTALLY INCORRECT, as it was
indeed a solution for the person in question.

If you have not got anything useful to add the discussion then keep
you views to yourself and shut up.
