Sorry, I forgot to mention this: you have to run saned as root. 
Did you do that?

This is probably because saned didn't run as root.

Probably the same problem here: gdb has to be started as root.

Please try tests 2 and 3 again, running saned/gdb as root 
(unless you already did that).
