Oliver .. I think with your tips and feather reading of the how-to has got the device working .. there was one more twig I had to do and that was # chgrp scanner /dev/usb/scanner0 # chmod 660 /dev/usb/scanner0 then things got moving .. I'm stoked thanks again sycofly
