Could you explain in more detail about what you are talking?
Is it somehow related to the Epson 2580 (you are posting in the Epson
2580 thread)?

Why should an API for printers and scanners be created? There already
exist APIs for both kinds of devices. And why should it use X?

And how is a GUI related to that API?

What do you want to do exactly?
